Shell Pasta with Broccoli and Pesto

Kids love this dish, and they eat their pasta with vegetables; you have to try it.

  • 2 cups basil
  • 2 tablespoons pine nuts
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • salt
  • 1/2 cups Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons cheese
  • 1/2 cups olive oil
  • 450 grams pasta , shell pasta or fusilli
  • 1 head broccoli, only the florets
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter , (optional)

  • Put the first 6 ingredients in the food processor and process until it becomes a paste, scraping down the bowl with a spatula from time to time. Add 1/2 cup of olive oil and stir until you reach the desired consistency; more can be added to taste.
  • Cook the pasta in 3 liters of boiling water with 2 tablespoons of salt, 5 minutes before the pasta is ready, add the broccoli. Drain and transfer to a serving dish, and if desired, add butter while gently stirring, add a bit of pesto, mix, and serve hot.
