With this classic tomato sauce, you can prepare many dishes like this spaghetti, a lasagna, or a baked chicken breast. You will never have to buy store-bought sauce again!
Put the can of tomatoes with their juices in the food processor and pulse until chopped a bit. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and onion. Cook, stirring, until the garlic and onion are cooked (5-10 minutes for the garlic and 20 minutes for the onion).
Add the dried chili flakes and let heat for 15 seconds to release their flavor, then add the tomatoes with their juices.
Wait for it to boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, and reduce the heat slightly. Add the salt and basil, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon for about 20-40 minutes.
Add a pinch of sugar if the sauce is too sour.
