Easy Tomato Sauce for Pasta

With this classic tomato sauce, you can prepare many dishes like this spaghetti, a lasagna, or a baked chicken breast. You will never have to buy store-bought sauce again!

  • 3 kilos canned tomato, whole with their juice
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, medium finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoons peperoncino, (dried chili flakes)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse salt
  • 1/4 cups fresh basil leaf, chopped
  • 1 pinch sugar

  • Put the can of tomatoes with their juices in the food processor and pulse until chopped a bit. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
  • Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and onion. Cook, stirring, until the garlic and onion are cooked (5-10 minutes for the garlic and 20 minutes for the onion).
  • Add the dried chili flakes and let heat for 15 seconds to release their flavor, then add the tomatoes with their juices.
  • Wait for it to boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, and reduce the heat slightly. Add the salt and basil, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon for about 20-40 minutes.
  • Add a pinch of sugar if the sauce is too sour.
