Gorgonzola Cheese Gratin Broccoli

This broccoli gratin with blue cheese is a delicious side dish for meats.

  • 2 kilos broccoli
  • 6 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cups breadcrumbs
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 3 cups cow's milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/8 cayenne pepper
  • 90 grams gorgonzola cheese, or another blue cheese, crumbled

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  • Grease a large Pyrex dish with butter.
  • Steam the broccoli cut into florets for 15 minutes or until tender.
  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the breadcrumbs and stir until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Set aside.
  • In a medium pot, melt 4 and a half tablespoons of butter.
  • When the butter is melted, add the flour and stir well with a whisk until smooth.
  • Add 1 cup of milk to the pot and stir with a whisk until it thickens slightly, about 7-10 minutes.
  • Add another cup of milk and stir again until it thickens (5-7 minutes).
  • Finally, add the rest of the milk and wait 5 minutes while stirring until it thickens.
  • Add the crumbled Gorgonzola cheese and stir until melted, about 2 minutes.
  • Place the broccoli in the greased dish and drizzle with the prepared white sauce.
  • Sprinkle with the breadcrumbs
  • Cut the other tablespoon of butter into pieces and place on top.
  • Bake for 20 minutes until golden on top and bubbling.
  • Serve hot.
