KFC Style Mashed Potatoes

  • 6 potatoes, medium
  • water, for cooking the potatoes

  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 1/4 cups butter, in cubes
  • 1/8 teaspoons nutmeg

  • 1/2 cups cream cheese, in cubes, at room temperature
  • gravy, can be beef or turkey, for serving

  • Peel and cut the potatoes into medium pieces.
  • Place the potatoes in a saucepan with enough water, add salt, and once the water comes to a boil, cook for 20 minutes until very soft. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat the heavy cream with the butter, nutmeg, and enough salt in a small pot for 8 minutes over medium-low heat. Whisk constantly to prevent the cream from sticking. Set aside once the time is up.
  • In a bowl, mash the still-hot potatoes together with the cream cheese using a potato masher, gradually pour in the hot heavy cream and continue to mix; you will gradually achieve the desired texture, and you don't have to add all the liquid if you don't want to.
  • Serve the creamy mashed potatoes in a sharing bowl and drizzle with your preferred gravy.
