How to decorate a cake with ruffles

Place the cake on a rotating stand that slides well. Use a large spatula to cover the cake with a layer of frosting, trying not to touch the cake directly, but rather frosting to frosting, to avoid pulling up crumbs.

Smooth the frosting with the spatula keeping it at a 45° angle to the cake and making a continuous motion with the rotating base. Be sure to always clean your spatula.

Divide the remaining frosting into three bowls and color with food coloring in three shades, starting from the lightest to the darkest.

Place the piping tips inside the pastry bags, cutting the ends so they fit well.

Fill the bags with each frosting and apply pressure to push the contents down. Roll the bag to prevent the frosting from coming out when using it.

Start decorating the cake with the strongest shade of frosting, holding your hand horizontally to the cake and placing the wide part of the tip against the frosting to make it stick.

Make movements from top to bottom to create the ruffles. If you make a mistake, you can remove the decoration with the help of a toothpick.
