How to cook pasta correctly

Pasta is a delicious dish in any of its different recipes. But if the pasta is not cooked properly, it can overcook, become sticky, or break, causing your dishes to lose flavor and texture. Follow this step-by-step guide to learn how to cook pasta correctly.

Step by Step

1
In a large pot, add water and 1 or 2 tablespoons of salt, so that the pasta absorbs it during cooking.
2
Once the water is boiling, add the pasta. Stir for the first 2 minutes, as this is when the starch will come out of the pasta (the starch acts like glue) and stirring will help prevent it from sticking.
3
Do not add oil. This would only cause the pasta to absorb the oil and not the flavor of the sauce. Let it cook for the time indicated on the package.
4
Make sure to check it until it is al dente (a term that indicates that when bitten, the pasta feels firm but not hard).
5
Transfer the pasta to a colander, and then mix the hot pasta with the sauce. This will help it absorb all the flavor.
