How to set the table for an elegant dinner or event

When setting an elegant table for a dinner, it’s not only about placing beautiful dinnerware and utensils; it’s also important to consider the service, decoration, and ambiance of the space. I share my secret for knowing how to set a formal table.

Step by Step

1
Based on the type of event, choose the dinnerware and glassware. Select the color of the tablecloth, the accessories, and the flowers or candles that highlight your decoration.
2
The tablecloth should hang at least 50 cm and must always be ironed.
3
Place a centerpiece with natural flowers and candelabras with candles. You can choose it classic or modern, but giving each element its place so that the table looks orderly and elegant.
4
Use cloth napkins, and preferably, place a napkin holder on each napkin. The napkins go on the far left of the forks, or they can go in the center of the plate. There should be at least 60 cm of space between one person and another.
5
The first piece of cutlery, on the right side of the plate, should be the knife for the main course. Place a teaspoon to the right of the knife. The soup spoon is larger than the teaspoon and is located at the far right. Place all the forks to the left of the plate. The main course fork is the largest and is placed to the left of the salad fork. The salad forks are at the far left.
6
Typically, three glasses are placed: a large one for red wine, a medium one for water, and a slightly smaller one for white wine. The glasses are placed upside down above the knives in order from left to right: water glass, white wine glass, and red wine glass. They can be arranged at a slight angle, with the water glass facing outward, meaning further away from the plate.
7
As complements: place a butter spreader along the individual plate for bread and the butter dish. The dessert fork goes in the middle and above the main plate, and the dessert spoon goes above the dessert fork.
8
With this arrangement, your table will surely impress your guests.
