How to make poinsettias last until next Christmas

Poinsettias are very resilient flowers that decorate our homes during the Christmas season. Follow this step-by-step guide to keep them fresh for longer.

Step by Step

1
If your flowers have any pests, clean them with soapy water and separate them from your other plants to prevent contagion.
2
Place them outdoors, where they can get a bit of sun in the afternoon. If it’s too sunny or hot, growth may be delayed.
3
It’s important to consider the time they bloom; if you want them to be full of flowers by the end of November, start this process on October 1st.
4
Put the plant in a dark room, where very little light enters, like a closet.
5
Buy a white light bulb, as this will make the flower take on a much more intense color.
6
Set a schedule, for example, from 9 am to 5 pm in a dark room with white light.
7
The flowers will start to take on an oxide tone, keep them under white light.
8
Avoid giving them more than 10 hours of light per day, this way they will continue to bloom even after the season has passed.
