Preparation
Gently rinse the strawberries and dry them on paper towels.
Line a cookie sheet or tray with waxed paper.
In a 1-quart frying pan, melt chocolate chips and shortening over low heat, stirring frequently.
Remove from the fire.
Dip the bottom half of each strawberry into the chocolate mixture; let the excess drain in the pan.
Place them on the tray or tray lined with waxed paper.
Refrigerate uncovered about 30 minutes or until the chocolate is firm, or until ready to serve.
Store them covered in the refrigerator so that the chocolate does not soften.
