Easy Mexican Fritters with Dulce de Leche

The fritters are a typical and seasonal Mexican dessert, which has a homemade honey made with brown sugar. With this recipe for easy fritters, you can prepare a tower filled with cream cheese and dulce de leche and your own honey of piloncillo from scratch. So that the flour tortillas do not burn, it is important that the oil is not very hot and if you want the honey to have a thicker consistency, add half of the water only.

Ingredients

2 servings
  • enough of vegetable oil to fry
  • 10 flour tortillas
  • 1 piece of piloncillo for honey
  • 1/4 of Cup of Water for honey
  • 1 raja of cinnamon for honey
  • 2 pieces of star anise for honey
  • 3 guavas cut in halves for honey
  • 1 Cup of cream cheese for the filling
  • 1 Cup of dulce de leche (caramel) for the filling
  • enough of whipped cream to decorate
  • enough of guava cut in halves to decorate
  • enough of cinnamon to decorate

    Preparation

    In a pan over low heat, fry the flour tortillas until they are crispy. Place on absorbent paper to remove excess grease and reserve.
    For honey: heat the piloncillo, water, cinnamon, star anise and guavas in a pot over medium heat. Cook until a honey forms. Let cool and reserve.
    For the filling: beat the cream cheese until it is soft, add the dulce de leche and mix until integrated.
    On a table, assemble the donut tower, adding in each layer the filling and cover with whipped cream. Garnish with guavas and cinnamon, and serve with honey for fritters.

    PRESENTATION

    On a plate of talavera, accompanied by coffee pot.

    TIPS

    It is important 2, otherwise the flour tortillas would burn. The consistency of honey will depend on the amount of water you add to the recipe, if you want a thicker honey, add half the water.
