Use this recipe to decorate your sugar cookies. It will be a soft, smooth and dry icing and you will be able to decorate cookies as if store bought.

Ingredients

12 portions
  • 4 egg whites
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • vegetal color additives
  • pastry bag

Preparation

In a blender beat the egg whites until frothy.
Add the powdered sugar and mix until well blended.
Divide the icing in different plates to add the colors you want to use.
Add drops of vegetable coloring to the plates with icing and mix well. (Be careful as the vegetable coloring color very fast, add one drop at the time).
Put the colored icing in a piping bag with a small round tip, and pipe the border of the cookies first. Then fill in the center of the cookies. You will notice that the icing extends and stays smooth. (If it is too thick you can add 1/2 teaspoon of water)
To decorate borders, or other enhancing elements you can thicken the icing by adding powdered sugar. You can put this icing in a separate piping bag with a finer tip to make details.

TIPS

If you let the cookies dry for 15 minutes, the icing will set and you will be able to stack them.
