Arepas, one of the most famous dishes in Venezuela that is characterized by its variety of fillings, it also does not have a schedule to enjoy it, you can consume it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Enjoy these shredded beef arepas!

Ingredients

6 portions
  • 800 grams cornmeal, for the mass
  • 500 milliliters Water, for the mass
  • 1 teaspoon salt, for the mass
  • 1 tablespoon vegetal oil, for the mass
  • 300 grams beef brisket, for the mass
  • 60 grams onion, for the filling, (finely chopped)
  • 3 tomatoes, for the filling, (in cubes)
  • 50 grams red pepper, for the filling, (in cubes)
  • 1 clove garlic, for the filling
  • 10 grams cumin, for the filling
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato, for the filling

Preparation

In a bowl add warm water and dissolve the salt, once ready add oil and little by little, the precooked cornmeal, mix all the ingredients until forming a soft and moist dough.
Form medium dough balls and press with the palm of your hand to form discs with a thickness of approximately 1 cm. and reserve.
In a skillet over medium heat arrange the arepas and cook for approximately 5 min or until they take a golden color on both sides, reserve.
For the filling, fry the onion in small cubes, the garlic, the tomato, the red pepper in small cubes, and add the precooked shredded meat, mix very well and add the liquefied tomato, the beef cooking broth, season with salt , pepper and a touch of cumin powder. Cook for approximately 5 min until the liquids reduce by half.
With the help of a knife, open the arepa and fill with the shredded meat

PRESENTATION

Serve on a plate spread with sauce.

TIPS

If the dough cracks or breaks you can add a little more water.
