Nopales Tacos with Martajada Sauce

These rich prickly pear tacos are a healthy alternative to consume at any time of the day, as they are easy to prepare and they yield a lot; Prickly pear helps prevent heart disease thanks to its high content of amino acids, fiber and antioxidant. In addition they are accompanied with a tasty martajada sauce, which you can also use to accompany other preparations.

Ingredients

4 portions
  • 3 cups nopal
  • enough Water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 5 tomatoes, for the sauce
  • 1/4 onions, for the sauce
  • 1 garlic, for the sauce
  • 3 morita chili peppers, for the sauce
  • to taste salt, for the sauce
  • 1/2 cups red onion, for the nopales
  • 1 cup tomtato, for the nopales
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice, for the nopales
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar, for the nopales
  • 1 tablespoon oregano, for the nopales
  • to taste salt
  • enough corn tortilla
  • enough Cotija cheese

Preparation

Heat a pot with water, add the nopales, the baking soda, the salt and cook for approximately 7 minutes; remove and strain. Reservation.
Mix the nopales with the red onion, the tomato, the lemon juice, the vinegar, the oregano, and season with salt.
Grill the tomatoes, onion, garlic, and morita chili for 5 minutes (without burning). In a molcajete or mortar grind the ingredients, if necessary add a little water to grind better, add salt and reserve.
Assemble the tacos with the prepared nopales, accompany with sauce and Cotija cheese.

PRESENTATION

You can play with the ingredients that you like the most to add to the cactus, such as cucumber, radish, or a vegetable that you like.

TIPS

When you finish cooking the nopales, put them in a drainer for a few minutes, this will help to remove the slime as much as possible.
