Drowned Cakes from Jalisco

The drowned cakes of Jalisco are a very popular Mexican appetizer. It consists of a cake made with bread called "birote" which is stuffed with carnitas and then dipped in a spicy sauce, prepared with dry tree chile and tomato. They are simple and have a lot of flavor for all the ingredients that make them up.

Do not hesitate any more and prepare some delicious drowned cakes from Jalisco. You can accompany them with rich pickled onions and a few drops of lemon; we assure you that by tasting them they will become one of your favorite dishes.

Ingredients

6 portions
  • 1 liter Water
  • 5 tomatoes
  • 10 dried chile de árbol peppers
  • 1 onion, cut into pieces
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cups oil
  • 1 leave bay (laurel)
  • 1 pinch oregano
  • 1 pinch clove
  • 1 pinch cumin
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 6 Mexican french bread rolls, or birote
  • 1/2 kilos carnitas
  • 1 cup red onion, to accompany (pickled)
  • to taste red sauce, To accompany

Preparation

In a small pot heat the water and cook the tomatoes with the chili, onion and garlic.
Blend the previous preparation with a little liquid.
Heat a small pot over medium heat with the oil and sauté the previous preparation, add the bay leaf, the oregano, the clove, the cumin, season with salt to your liking and cook 5 minutes more so that it thickens slightly. Reserve the sauce.
On a short board the birotes remove a little crumb and stuff with the carnitas. Serve the cake on a plate and cover with the sauce. Add a bit of purple onions and red sauce to accompany. Enjoy

PRESENTATION

Serve the pancake with a little purple onions and red sauce.

TIPS

You can use another type of bread if you do not have Birote. Make sure it is hard crust so it does not water quickly.

Buena receta a lo rápido pero las originales de aquí de jalisco es birote salado y van untados de frijoles refritos y lleva la salsa más aparte el chile con sus cebollitas cocidas en el mismo chile
