Learning to Eat Sushi Correctly

We all love sushi. Those delicious bites of fish with boiled rice are a true delight for the palate. However, this Asian dish requires a bit more skill to be consumed correctly. Do you know if you are eating your sushi the right way? Check out the rules for eating sushi like an expert: The Preparation Before you start eating your sushi order, make sure to clean your hands with the wet towel, as you will basically be eating with your hands (yes, believe it or not, that is the traditional way to eat sushi). So what are the chopsticks for? When you order sashimi (those pieces of raw fish without rice), you should eat them with these utensils. 🏄🏻🏄🏻🏄🏻 A photo posted by John Um (@chefjohn) on May 4, 2016 at 3:20 PM PDT Recommended Reading: After eating this shrimp sushi, you'll want to lick your fingers! A Little About Extras We Mexicans love the extras we add to our dishes: sauce, lemon, vegetables, cheese, etc. But be careful when eating sushi: the extra ingredients (wasabi and ginger) should not overpower the dish. If you like strong and spicy flavors, add just a little wasabi, as too much could mask the flavors of the fish. As for the ginger, forget about putting it on every piece of sushi. This exquisite root is meant to cleanse your palate between bites, so it should not be consumed at the same time as the sushi. Can someone say YUM. 👌🏼 A photo posted by Brian Schaller (@brian_schaller) on May 4, 2016 at 8:19 AM PDT Recommended Reading:  Did you know that if you combine avocado and wasabi, you get an incredibly tasty dip? The Perfect Bite We have mentioned that sashimi is eaten with chopsticks and sushi with hands, but do you know how to pick each piece? Pick up one piece at a time with your thumb and middle finger. Holding sushi with your hands allows you to feel its textures without damaging it. When I'm craving super fresh sashimi, I go to @freshideasstarthere 🐟🍣. I haven't been to the new Kits location yet, but I'm dying to go check it out! The Star: Soy Sauce We have to admit that many of us love to dip and soak sushi pieces in soy sauce, but this is a big mistake (besides being considered bad taste in Japan). The correct way to add soy sauce to sushi is to take the piece and dip only the fish part, thus avoiding the rice from soaking and losing its texture. Remember that leaving a little rice at the end of your sushi reveals you as a novice. Heute gab's Sushi, meine liebsten sind mit Avocado, Gurke und Sesam. The Food in Your Mouth The art of eating sushi also includes the position in which you place the food in your mouth. Although it may seem exaggerated, doing this correctly can greatly enhance the dining experience. To better savor and appreciate each bite, place the sushi in such a way that the fish touches your tongue. You will see how much better it tastes this way.
