It is well known that minerals are important for the proper functioning of the human body, where they represent about 4% of its body weight and are distributed in similar proportions in all tissues.
All minerals are important. Some of them are needed in large amounts (macrominerals) and others in smaller quantities (microminerals).
Like vitamins, they do not provide energy, but they do:
- They are part of the bone and dental structure (calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, fluoride…).
- They regulate the balance of water inside and outside the cell (electrolytes).
- They are involved in nerve excitability and muscle activity (calcium, magnesium…).
- They allow the entry of substances into the cells (glucose needs sodium to be used as an energy source at the cellular level).
- They participate in metabolic processes (chromium is necessary for insulin function; selenium is part of an antioxidant system in our body that defends us against free radicals, etc.).
- They are involved in the proper functioning of the immune system (zinc, selenium, copper).
Therefore, it is very important to consider them and include them in your cooking recipes to allow for better personal and family nutrition.
Additionally, here are some recipes you can prepare that include sufficient minerals. Take note.
