You have probably heard the saying: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” millions of times. But how do we know if the apple is giving us vitamins or simply filling us with chemicals? It is super important to know which fruit is in season because that is when it is the most nutritious. Out-of-season fruit not only costs more, but it has to be transported from somewhere far away from where we live. When fruit is brought from distant places, many chemicals are added to prevent it from rotting during transport. It's great to know what fruit is fresh because then you ensure that you are being nourished, you support local producers, and... it is cheaper!
Before understanding the importance of buying seasonal fruit, I used to get very angry when I bit into an orange and it was dry. Who likes dry fruit? Not me! Well, if you want to fill your fruit bowl with high-quality, nutritious, and tasty fruits, here’s a seasonal list for each month. We need to be aware of what we are feeding our families. If we know that the fruits we buy are highly nutritious, then we can indeed tell our children: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away!”.
