Fruit Punch Frozen Margarita

  • 2 cinnamon sticks, for punch
  • 1 piloncillo, for punch
  • 1 cup sugar cane, cut into sticks, for punch
  • 1 cup apple, cut into cubes, for punch
  • 5 guavas, peeled and halved, for punch
  • 1/2 oranges, halved, for punch
  • 1 cup tamarind pods, peeled
  • 1/4 cups hibiscus flower, for punch
  • 2 star anise pods, for punch
  • 2 cups ice cubes, for the margarita
  • 1/2 cups Tequila, for the margarita
  • 1/3 cups orange liqueur, for the margarita
  • 4 tablespoons lime juice, for the margarita
  • 1/4 cups piloncillo, shredded, for rimming
  • 1/4 cups chile powder, for rimming
  • 4 tablespoons sugar, for rimming

  • For the punch, in a small pot, boil the water with cinnamon, piloncillo, sugar cane, apple, guava, orange, tamarind, hibiscus flower, and anise until they release their flavors; strain and set the fruit aside from the punch. Chill.
  • For the margarita, blend the ice with 1 cup of fruit punch and half a cup of fruit, tequila, orange liqueur, and lemon juice until you get a thick mixture. Set aside.
  • In a bowl, mix the piloncillo with chili powder and sugar. Rim the margarita glasses by moistening the edges with orange and dipping them in the previous mixture. Serve the margarita in the glasses and garnish with some of the reserved fruit.
