Tamarind Agua Fresca

Tamarind water is a very popular drink in Mexico, you can find it in most taquerias and restaurants, as it is very refreshing, with a rich combination of sour and sweet. Rim your glasses with chili powder and enjoy.

  • 2 cups tamarind pods, peeled
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 8 cups water
  • ice cubes
  • orange, for serving
  • 1/2 cups lime juice, to rim
  • 1/2 cups chile powder, to rim

  • Heat a pot over medium heat with the water and cook the tamarind until soft. Remove from heat, strain, and cool. With the help of your fingers, separate the pulp from the seeds.
  • Add the tamarind pulp to the blender with the sugar and water, blend and serve in a pitcher with ice and orange slices.
  • Rim the glasses with lime and chili powder, serve the water in the glasses with more ice and garnish with a slice of orange.
