Mulled Wine

What better than mulled wine? This German drink is perfect for enjoying the World Cup without the cold!

  • 1 orange, slices
  • 80 grams raw sugar
  • 3 star anise pods
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 750 milliliters red wine
  • orange, slices, for garnish

  • In a pot, place the orange slices, brown sugar, star anise, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, bay leaf, ginger, cinnamon sticks, and 100 ml of red wine. Cook for 5 minutes.
  • Add the remaining wine and cook over medium heat for 25 more minutes.
  • Check the sweetness; if necessary, add a bit more sugar.
  • Pour the mulled wine into a pitcher using a strainer.
  • Serve the mulled wine, garnish with a slice of orange, and enjoy.
