Day of the Dead Bread with Orange Zest

Prepare this traditional and fluffy Day of the Dead bread for the Day of the Dead celebrations with a delicious orange flavor and sugar coating that you'll love.

  • 2 1/4 cups Great Value® wheat flour
  • 1/4 cups Great Value® Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dry yeast
  • 1/2 oranges, zest
  • 1 lime, zest
  • 50 grams butter
  • 5 grams Great Value® plain salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Great Value® milk
  • 1 tablespoon Great Value® oil, for greasing
  • 2 tablespoons Great Value® wheat flour, for the bones
  • 1 egg, for brushing
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted for brushing
  • 1/2 cups Great Value® Sugar, for sprinkling

  • Preheat the oven to 170°C.
  • Mix the flour with the sugar, yeast, zests, and butter in the mixer with the hook.
  • Add the salt, the egg, and gradually the milk, continue beating until well combined.
  • Knead for about 10 minutes or until you obtain a homogeneous and elastic dough.
  • Place the dough in a bowl with a little oil and cover. Let it ferment (25 to 35°C) until it doubles in size.
  • To form the bones, mix a small portion of dough with the 2 tablespoons of flour until you have a sandier dough. Set aside.
  • Punch down the dough and form the breads into balls, decorating with the bones. Attach the decoration with a little water.
  • Place the breads on a greased baking tray and let them ferment again (25 to 35°C) until they double in size.
  • Brush with egg and bake the breads for 25 to 35 minutes or until cooked. Let cool.
  • Brush the breads with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar. Serve. Buy HERE
