  • 1 teaspoon orange blossom essence
  • 1 envelope dry yeast
  • 1/2 cups butter
  • 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups flour

  • Mix the warm milk, orange blossom essence, and yeast in a bowl until well combined and let rest for 10 minutes.
  • Cream the butter and sugar with a mixer and, while continuing to beat, incorporate the eggs one by one. Then add the salt and gradually add the flour until you obtain a sandy consistency. Add the milk and yeast mixture and continue beating for 5 minutes or until you have a smooth and homogeneous dough.
  • Divide a small portion of the dough to form the bones and add ¼ cup of flour, then knead until combined. Place the portions of dough in separate greased bowls and let rest for 1 hour or until they double in size.
  • For the filling: mix the butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until well combined. Set aside.
  • Roll out the dough on a flat surface, spread with the filling, roll up, and cut with a knife. Place the rolls on a baking tray.
  • Roll out the dough for the bones and shape them. Place on each roll and let ferment for 10 more minutes. Bake the pan de muerto rolls at 180 °C for 20 minutes.
  • Brush the rolls with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
