Place the oven rack in the middle, and adjust the oven temperature to 300 F (150 C).
Place the slices of bread on a rack and put them in the oven to toast until almost dry (the center should remain soft), about 16 minutes (turn the bread halfway through the time).
Lower the oven temperature to 200 F (90 C). Mix the milk, egg yolks, sugar, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Pour the mixture into a 13 x 9 cm baking dish.
Soak the bread that was toasted in the oven for about 20 seconds on each side. With a spatula, take 1 slice of bread and let excess liquid drain off. Repeat this step with the remaining bread.
Heat 1/2 tablespoon of butter in a medium skillet over medium-low heat. Place 2 slices of bread soaked in the milk in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned. Cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side. (If it browns too quickly, lower the temperature).
Follow the same step with the rest of the bread and transfer them to the oven on a tray to keep them warm.
