  • Place the oven rack in the middle, and adjust the oven temperature to 300 F (150 C).
  • Place the slices of bread on a rack and put them in the oven to toast until almost dry (the center should remain soft), about 16 minutes (turn the bread halfway through the time).
  • Lower the oven temperature to 200 F (90 C). Mix the milk, egg yolks, sugar, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Pour the mixture into a 13 x 9 cm baking dish.
  • Soak the bread that was toasted in the oven for about 20 seconds on each side. With a spatula, take 1 slice of bread and let excess liquid drain off. Repeat this step with the remaining bread.
  • Heat 1/2 tablespoon of butter in a medium skillet over medium-low heat. Place 2 slices of bread soaked in the milk in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned. Cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side. (If it browns too quickly, lower the temperature).
  • Follow the same step with the rest of the bread and transfer them to the oven on a tray to keep them warm.
