Preparation
Put the oven rack in the middle, and adjust the oven temperature to 300 F (150 C).
Put the slices of bread on a rack and put to the oven to toast until it is almost all dry (the center should continue soft), about 16 minutes (you have to turn the bread over half the time).
Lower the oven temperature to 200 F (90 C). Mix milk, egg yolks, sugar, 2 tablespoons melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon and salt. Put the mixture in a 33 x 22 cm baking dish.
Soak the bread that was toasted in the oven about 20 seconds on each side. With a spatula, take 1 slice of the bread and let the extra liquids drain. Repeat this step with the rest of the bread.
Heat 1/2 tablespoon of butter in a medium skillet over medium-low heat. Put 2 slices of bread soaked in the milk in the pan and cook 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Cook another 3-4 minutes on the other side. (If it browns very quickly, lower the temperature).
Follow the same step with the rest of the loaves and go to the oven in a tray to keep them warm.
