Machaca Patties

Treat your whole family to these delicious machaca patties drenched in a thick guajillo chili sauce with a slight spicy flavor from morita chili that makes them completely irresistible. A great option for lunchtime!

  • 1 1/2 cups machaca beef
  • 1/2 cups onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 5 eggs
  • salt and pepper

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 tomatoes, for the sauce, cut into quarters
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 onions, for the sauce
  • 4 guajillo chiles, for the sauce
  • 2 morita chiles, for the sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cumin, for the sauce
  • 1 teaspoon oregano, for the sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth, for the sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • In a bowl, mix the machaca with the onion, garlic, cilantro, eggs, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat, using a spoon to form patties and fry until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  • For the sauce, in a pot over medium heat, heat the oil and cook the tomatoes, garlic, onion, morita chili, guajillo chili for 15 minutes. Add the cumin, oregano, beef broth, and cook for 10 more minutes. Let cool and set aside.
  • Blend the sauce, strain, and return to the pot with a tablespoon of oil. Once it comes to a boil, cook for 5 more minutes.
  • Serve the patties on a plate and drizzle with the sauce. Enjoy.
