Oriental Sweet and Sour Chicken

This chicken is an excellent option for those who like to cook quickly, deliciously, and differently. It can have a variation by battering the chicken beforehand, but this will add more calories, so if you make it as instructed, your chicken will not have as many calories and will be a good option for children to eat and learn a bit about oriental cuisine.

  • Place 1 tablespoon of butter to melt in the pan and sauté the onion cubes and garlic, add the chicken cubes and cook thoroughly. Once the chicken is cooked, remove from heat and place the chicken and onion in a bowl.
  • In the same pan on low heat, place another square of butter and the sugar to form a sort of caramel. The sugar should not burn or turn brown; stir the mixture of sugar and oil before the caramel forms, then add the juice of 1 orange and stir trying to dissolve the sugar in the juice.
  • Once the sugar and juice are dissolved, add 3 to 4 tablespoons of ketchup to the mixture and stir to incorporate the ingredients well. Once everything is well mixed, add the cooked chicken that we had in the bowl and stir so that all the chicken is coated with our sauce, while at the same time adding our pineapple cubes.
  • Let it cook on low heat for an additional 15 to 20 minutes; the sauce will take on a watery jam consistency when you turn off the heat.
