Gratinated Cuban Sandwich

The Cuban sandwich is a preparation that originated within the Cuban community in the United States, featuring an irresistible combination of meats, cheese, pickles, mustard, and the richness of oil or butter. You can make this Cuban sandwich recipe as healthy as you want, but the important thing is the seasoning you put on the meat.

  • 1 kilo vaccum-sealed USMeat® quality pork shoulder
  • 5 cloves garlic, for marinating
  • 1 tablespoon oregano, for marinating
  • 1 teaspoon cumin, for marinating
  • salt, for marinating
  • 1 teaspoon allspice berry, for marinating
  • 1 cup orange juice, for marinating
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice, for marinating
  • 3/4 cups cilantro, for marinating
  • 1/2 cups spearmint, for marinating
  • 1/2 cups olive oil, for marinating
  • ciabatta roll
  • yellow mustard
  • deli ham
  • Manchego cheese
  • pickles, sliced
  • coleslaw, for accompaniment, without mayonnaise

  • In a molcajete or mortar, mash the garlic with the oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix in a bowl the orange juice with the lemon juice; add the cilantro, mint, and the garlic paste you prepared earlier, add the olive oil, and season with salt.
  • Place the USMEAT® quality pork breast in a baking dish, make shallow cuts, and add the marinade. Let it rest for 2 hours.
  • Set the BAKE/ROAST option on the Ninja foodi® to 350° F for 20 minutes, place the Cook & Crisp basket inside the ceramic pot and the USMEAT® quality pork breast on top of it, and press Start/Stop. Once the time is up, select the AIR CRISP option and cook for an additional 5 minutes (or longer if necessary) to brown the surface.
  • Let the meat rest for 15 minutes, then slice it.
  • Prepare the sandwich with ciabatta, mustard, leg ham, sliced pork, pickles, and olive oil.
  • Place the rack in the ceramic pot and put the sandwich on it with the BAKE/ROAST option on the Ninja foodi® for about 5 minutes so that the manchego cheese melts and the bread browns.
  • Serve the sandwich cut in half and accompanied by coleslaw.
