Poblano Hot Dog and Tomatillo Sauce

Try these original hot dogs with poblano pepper and a delicious green tomatillo sauce.

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 Poblano chiles, in strips
  • 1 onion, in slices
  • 6 sausages, your preferred ones
  • 1 cup green salsa
  • 1/2 cups fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 6 hot dog buns
  • 2 ounces Monterey Jack cheese, spicy jack cheese in thin slices
  • Cotija cheeses, or crumbled feta cheese

  • Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the strips of poblano pepper and the onion, add salt to taste, and cook until the onion is translucent and the strips are soft, about 10 minutes.
  • Set aside the pepper and in the same skillet, heat the sausages by adding water to cover them. Bring the water to a boil and cook for 5 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the green sauce with the cilantro.
  • Preheat an electric oven to medium temperature. Place a sausage inside a hot dog bun. Arrange them on a tray lined with parchment paper and top with the slices of Monterey cheese.
  • Bake until the cheese melts. Remove from the oven, add a bit of the onion mixture you prepared to each hot dog, add some of the sauce, and sprinkle the cheese of your choice.
