  • 1 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cups raw sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoons vanilla essence
  • 5 tablespoons milk
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ginger
  • wheat flour, to roll out the dough
  • royal icing, for decorating

  • Place the paddle attachment on your mixer. Cream the butter and brown sugar. Once you have a smooth mixture without lumps, add the egg yolk, vanilla, and milk. Beat for 3 minutes.
  • Gradually incorporate the flour, then add the baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and ginger. Beat for another 10 minutes.
  • Cover the cookie dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Sprinkle enough flour on a flat surface and roll out the dough to a thickness of ½ centimeter. Use holiday cookie cutters to shape the cookies and remove the excess dough.
  • Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 180 °C for 15 minutes. Let cool.
  • Decorate the gingerbread cookies with royal icing.
