Place the paddle attachment on your mixer. Cream the butter and brown sugar. Once you have a smooth mixture without lumps, add the egg yolk, vanilla, and milk. Beat for 3 minutes. Gradually incorporate the flour, then add the baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and ginger. Beat for another 10 minutes.
