Servings
  • 1/4 watermelons, with skin
  • 1/4 pineapples, in slices of 0.5 cm thick

  • 6 cups tamarind candies, Pulparindo
  • chile powder, with sugar
  • chamoy
  • orange, lime and cucumber, for decoration

Low
  • Cut the watermelon into slices, cut each slice in half, and then again in half to make small triangles. Set aside.
  • Remove the skin from each slice of pineapple. Set aside.
  • Remove the skin from the mango using a small knife. Set aside.
  • Combine the tamarind candies to form a ball. Using a tortilla press, flatten the tamarind ball to create a circle 3 mm thick; if desired, you can use a rolling pin to make a larger circle. The ideal size of each tamarind circle should be half a centimeter larger than each piece of fruit to be covered.
  • Cover the fruits with the tamarind circles; if necessary, use two circles per fruit to ensure it is completely covered. The secret is that the tamarind should be large enough so that the candy does not come off due to the natural juice of each fruit. Then place a wooden stick on one side of each covered fruit.
  • Coat the fruits with chili powder and sugar. Serve with liquid chamoy.
