Apple Cake with Cheddar Biscuit Topping

  • 1 cup water
  • 2/3 cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons tapioca
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 teaspoons nutmeg powder
  • 6 cups apple, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
  • 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cups butter
  • 3 tablespoons cow's milk

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Mix the water, 2/3 cup of sugar, tapioca, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large pot. Add the apples. Bring to a strong boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Pour into a square baking dish. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup of cheese.
  • Mix the flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  • Add the butter and cut it in until the mixture has a coarse crumb consistency.
  • Add the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese and the milk until a smooth dough forms with the mixture. Drop amounts of 1/4 cup over the hot apple mixture.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown.
