Homemade Apple Pie

  • 4 cups flour, (500 g), for the crust
  • 1 1/4 cups butter, (300 g) cold, for the crust
  • 1 egg, for the crust
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence, for the crust
  • 3/4 cups sugar, (180 g), for the crust
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 6 green apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cups raw sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoons cardamom
  • 1 clove
  • 1 egg, for brushing

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • For the crust, place everything in the food processor and process until combined. Knead lightly and let rest in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
  • Roll out with a rolling pin to 5 mm thick and place in a previously greased and floured pie pan, trim the excess and set aside for the lattice. Reserve the pan in the refrigerator.
  • In a skillet over low heat, melt the butter and sauté the apples. Add the sugar and cook for 5 minutes or until the liquid has reduced. Add the dry ingredients and cloves and cook for 1 more minute. Let cool.
  • Fill the pan with the apples and cover with a lattice of the remaining dough. Brush with egg and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Serve.
