Cinnamon Cookies

These delicious Cinnamon Cookies and other spices have all the flavor of Christmas.

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 tablespoons sherry
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon anise seeds
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 egg

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and grease the baking sheets with Pam or butter.
  • In a deep bowl, mix 2/3 cup of sugar, the sherry, the orange essence, and let it rest.
  • In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, anise seeds, and salt.
  • In an electric mixer, beat the butter until fluffy.
  • Combine the butter, the flour mixture, and the sugar mixture and knead until you have a uniform dough.
  • On a clean surface with a little flour, flatten the dough and cut out cookies in Christmas shapes. Transfer the cookies to the baking sheet.
  • Combine cinnamon and 1/4 cup of sugar in a small bowl.
  • Brush the cookies with the beaten egg and sprinkle the sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until the cookies begin to brown.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes, serve.
