Whole Piloncillo Little Pigs

This recipe is for cookie-type breads with which you can make little pigs, stars, and little trees depending on the cookie cutters you have.

  • 1 kilo flour
  • 500 grams whole-wheat flour
  • 500 grams vegetable shortening
  • 500 grams piloncillo
  • 2 cups water
  • 30 grams baking powder
  • 10 grams baking soda
  • 20 grams anise

  • In a skillet, the piloncillo is heated with the two cups of water until the piloncillo dissolves. It is left to cool.
  • Then the flours, baking powder, anise, and baking soda are added and mixed to form a well.
  • Once the piloncillo syrup is cool, we pour it into the well and knead; then we add the lard and continue kneading until we have a smooth dough.
  • We roll out the dough to a thickness of 1 centimeter and proceed to cut out the little pigs or shapes.
  • They are placed on a previously greased baking sheet and brushed with beaten egg to give them shine; they are baked at 200 degrees for about 15 to 20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
