Easy Pumpkin Candy

A traditional Mexican recipe with a gourmet touch. Serve the pumpkin candy in small pumpkins for a very original presentation.

  • 2 winter squash
  • 10 cups water
  • 10 cones piloncillo
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 6 sticks cinnamon
  • 1 anise seeds
  • 1 tablespoon clove
  • 4 white lime

  • In a large pot, heat the water, piloncillo, cinnamon, anise, and cloves over medium heat along with the sugar.
  • Cook over low heat until a honey-like consistency is formed (approx. 2 hours)
  • Cut the pumpkin into pieces and place in a large pot with water and lime; let soak for 2 hours. Remove the pumpkin from the water.
  • Add the pumpkin to the piloncillo honey and cook on low heat until the pumpkin is soft.
  • Serve in small pumpkins for a very original presentation.
