Figs in syrup

This rich recipe is ideal for making figs last all year. It's easy to do and everyone will love it.

  • 1 kilo fig, mature
  • 1 kilo sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon clove
  • 1/2 tablespoons vanilla essence

  • Make a small hole in all the figs with a toothpick.
  • Place the figs in water and let them soak for 2-3 hours.
  • Remove the figs from the water and place in boiling water. Boil for 15 minutes. Remove from water.
  • Replace the figs in cold water and let them cool. Repeat the step of boiling them in water.
  • Bring the sugar to boil with water and lemon juice. When it is boiling add the figs and boil for 15 minutes.
  • Remove the figs from the heat and marinate in the syrup for 12 hours.
  • Remove the figs and boil the syrup for 30 minutes or until thick. Add the figs again, add the vanilla and cloves and store in a glass container.
