Cut the top off each apple, then hollow out the center of the apple with a paring knife.
Spray the tops of the apples with lemon juice to prevent them from oxidizing. Place the apples on a baking sheet.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, butter, sugar, oats, nuts, and cinnamon. Use a fork to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Generously pour the mixture over each apple. Drizzle each apple with maple syrup.
Place 1/2 inch of water in the bottom of the baking dish. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes, or until the crumbs on top of the apples are golden and the apples are soft.
