Braided Apple Strudel

  • 500 grams puff pastry
  • 1 egg, for glazing
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence
  • 2 red apples
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 cups icing sugar, for decoration

  • Peel the apples and, using a corer, remove the center from each one. Cut them into small cubes of the same size.
  • Place them in a pot with refined sugar and a pinch of ground cinnamon. Keep on low heat until softened.
  • Flour a clean surface and a rolling pin. Roll out the puff pastry to the size you want, I recommend 20 cm x 20 cm.
  • Cut strips of the same size on both sides, cross each strip in a braided manner until you close it.
  • Remove the excess liquid from the apples so they don't make the dough soggy.
  • Place the filling in the center of the puff pastry, putting a little less at the ends.
  • Beat an egg and, with the help of a brush, glaze the entire strudel. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 12 minutes or until golden.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar or cinnamon before serving.
