Braided Apple Strudel

500 grams puff pastry
1 egg, for glazing
1 tablespoon vanilla essence
2 red apples
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1/4 cups icing sugar, for decoration

Peel the apples and, using a corer, remove the center from each one. Cut them into small cubes of the same size.
Place them in a pot with refined sugar and a pinch of ground cinnamon. Keep on low heat until softened.
Flour a clean surface and a rolling pin. Roll out the puff pastry to the size you want, I recommend 20 cm x 20 cm.
Cut strips of the same size on both sides, cross each strip in a braided manner until you close it.
Remove the excess liquid from the apples so they don't make the dough soggy.
Place the filling in the center of the puff pastry, putting a little less at the ends.
Beat an egg and, with the help of a brush, glaze the entire strudel. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 12 minutes or until golden.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar or cinnamon before serving.
