Guatemalan Torrejas

  • 8 concha, sweet bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 liter cow's milk
  • 3/4 cups cornstarch
  • 500 grams sugar
  • 1 liter water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1/4 cups raisins
  • 1/2 cups sugar, red

  • Boil the milk with 200 g of sugar and a cinnamon stick. When it boils, add the vanilla.
  • Dissolve the cornstarch in cold water and add it to the milk while mixing continuously. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Separate the egg whites from the yolks and beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form, then add the yolks. Remove the lid from the shells and fill them with the previously made filling.
  • Cover the shells with the egg mixture. Heat the oil and fry the shells. Remove from the oil and set aside.
  • Boil the water with the remaining sugar and cinnamon. Drizzle the torrejas with honey, decorate with raisins and sugar.
