Hazelnut Cream Tamales

This recipe is ideal to surprise your family and friends on Candlemas day; they are original and delicious tamales filled with hazelnut cream. Their fluffy texture and chocolaty flavor will delight everyone.

  • 12 corn husks
  • water, hot
  • 1 1/2 cups butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups corn masa flour
  • 1 1/2 cups rice flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups cow's milk
  • 1 1/2 cups hazelnut chocolate cream
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • chocolate, melted, for decoration

  • In a bowl, soak the tamale leaves in hot water for about 20 minutes to hydrate and soften them. Drain and set aside.
  • Beat the butter with the sugar in a mixer until creamy.
  • Add the corn flour, rice flour, baking powder, milk, and beat until well combined.
  • Place 3 tablespoons of dough on the tamale leaf, leaving one centimeter free at the ends, and place 1 tablespoon of hazelnut cream in the center, sprinkle with chocolate chips. Close and fold.
  • Place the tamales upright in a steamer with hot water and cook for 1 hour or until the dough does not stick to the leaf when opened.
  • Serve warm on a clay plate and decorate with melted hot chocolate.
