Preheat the oven to 180 degrees with the rack in the center of the oven.
Grease a small cake pan.
In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, lemon zest, and salt.
With an electric mixer, cream the butter with the sugar until it is fluffy and smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
Add the eggs and mix.
Lower the speed of the mixer and add the flour mixture and poppy seeds. Beat only until combined.
Pour into the previously greased pan and bake for 30 minutes until golden.
If desired, to glaze, mix lemon juice with powdered sugar in a deep plate and stir until smooth. Place the cake on a rack and cover with the glaze. Let it cool for about 15 minutes to harden.
