Cupcakes de Pan de Muerto

Pan de Muerto is traditional in Mexican bakeries; prepare this fun version that your kids will love: soft and fluffy pan de muerto cupcakes, with the classic butter and sugar topping. It will be the best option to enjoy the Day of the Dead season!

  • 1 envelope yeast
  • 1 cup cow's milk
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 San Juan® eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon orange blossom essence
  • 1 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 1 egg, for brushing
  • 1/2 cups butter, melted, for decoration
  • 1/4 cups sugar, for decoration

  • Hydrate the yeast with the milk and let it rest for 10 min.
  • On a clean surface, form a mound with the flour, place Huevo San Juan®, salt, sugar, hydrated yeast, orange zest, and orange blossom essence in the center. Knead for 10 minutes until a uniform dough is obtained.
  • Add the butter, and knead for 5 more minutes until integrated.
  • In a previously greased bowl, place the dough and cover with non-stick plastic, let it ferment for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • On a floured surface, form balls the size of your liner, shape the strips using your fingers.
  • Place the dough balls inside the cupcake liners and arrange the strips in a cross shape. Brush with Huevo San Juan® and bake for 15 min or until golden brown.
  • Using a brush, spread the bread with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
