Pan de Muerto is traditional in Mexican bakeries; prepare this fun version that your kids will love: soft and fluffy pan de muerto cupcakes, with the classic butter and sugar topping. It will be the best option to enjoy the Day of the Dead season!
Hydrate the yeast with the milk and let it rest for 10 min.
On a clean surface, form a mound with the flour, place Huevo San Juan®, salt, sugar, hydrated yeast, orange zest, and orange blossom essence in the center. Knead for 10 minutes until a uniform dough is obtained.
Add the butter, and knead for 5 more minutes until integrated.
In a previously greased bowl, place the dough and cover with non-stick plastic, let it ferment for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
On a floured surface, form balls the size of your liner, shape the strips using your fingers.
Place the dough balls inside the cupcake liners and arrange the strips in a cross shape. Brush with Huevo San Juan® and bake for 15 min or until golden brown.
Using a brush, spread the bread with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
