Sugar-Free Poached Pears in Spiced Red Wine

  • 1 1/2 cups red wine
  • 1/2 cups water
  • 3 allspice berries
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 star anise pod
  • 1/3 cups orange peels
  • 1 stick cinnamon

  • On a chopping board, peel pears using a peeler. Set aside in a container with water until ready to use.
  • In a pot, combine red wine, water, allspice berries, cloves, star anise, and orange peel. Add peeled pears and cinnamon stick, cover, and cook over medium-low heat for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Cut pears in half. Serve sugar-free poached pears in spiced red wine poured over and garnished with star anise, cinnamon sticks, and mint leaves.
