Pears Poached with Orange and Honey

Poaching is a technique for cooking fresh fruit and turning it into a delicious dessert. This recipe for pears with orange and honey is very tasty and healthy.

  • 1/2 cups honey
  • 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 6 cloves, whole
  • 8 pears
  • 4 oranges
  • 1 lime, sliced
  • peppermint, for garnish

  • In a large pot, combine the honey, sugar, lemon juice, cloves, and 4 cups of water.
  • Peel the pears and use a knife or a melon baller to remove the dark bottom part of the pears. Place the pears in the honey mixture and use a spoon to coat them with the mixture.
  • Allow the mixture to boil, reduce to low heat, cover the pot, and cook for 15-20 minutes or until the pears are tender when pierced with a knife.
  • Remove the pears from the syrup and place them in a deep container.
  • Meanwhile, peel the oranges and add them to the syrup. Bring the syrup back to a boil, reduce to low heat, cover the pot, and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Using a spoon, remove the oranges from the syrup and place them in the same bowl as the pears. Pour the syrup over them, cover, and refrigerate.
