  • 4 cups flour, for the dough
  • 3/4 cups sugar, for the dough
  • 300 grams butter, for the dough
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence, for the dough
  • 1 egg, for the dough
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for the filling
  • 6 apples, peeled and cubed medium, for the filling
  • 1/4 cups raw sugar, for the filling
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder, for the filling
  • 1/2 teaspoons cardamom, for the filling
  • 1 egg, for brushing
  • icing sugar, for decorating

  • Beat the flour, sugar, butter, vanilla extract, and egg until all ingredients are well combined. Set aside.
  • For the filling: cook the butter, apples, sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom in a pan for 5 minutes or until the liquid reduces. Let cool.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured flat surface until you achieve 5 mm thickness. Place in a pie dish, covering it completely. Fill with apples and braid the remaining dough.
  • Brush the apple pie with egg and bake for 40 minutes at 180 °C. Once cooled, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
