Homemade Apple Pie

  • 4 cups flour, for the dough
  • 3/4 cups sugar, for the dough
  • 300 grams butter, cold, for the dough
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence, for the dough
  • 1 egg, for the dough
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for the filling
  • 6 apples, peeled and cubed, for the filling
  • 1/4 cups raw sugar, for the filling
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon, for the filling
  • 1/2 teaspoons cardamom, for the filling
  • 1 egg, for brushing

  • Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  • For the dough: place everything in the food processor and process until combined. Knead lightly and rest in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
  • Roll out the dough using a rolling pin to 5 mm thick and place it in a previously greased and floured pie mold; trim the excess and set aside for braiding.
  • In a medium skillet, heat the butter and sauté the apples, add the sugar and cook for 5 minutes or until the liquid has reduced, season with cinnamon and cardamom. Let cool and set aside.
  • Fill the mold with the apples and cover with a braid of the remaining dough. Brush with egg and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the dough is golden brown. Serve and enjoy.
