Polvorones

Try this delicious and crumbly recipe for traditional polvorones rolled in sugar. They are soft and have the perfect texture, and you can add orange zest for a special touch. Perfect for tea time.

  • 300 grams vegetable shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 500 grams flour
  • 1/2 cups sugar, For decoration

  • Preheat the oven to 160°C.
  • Cream the butter with the sugar until well incorporated. Add the egg and vanilla.
  • Gradually add the flour and beat until combined.
  • Place the dough on non-stick plastic and shape into a log. Freeze for about 30 minutes. Cut the polvorones into approximately 2 cm thick pieces and sprinkle with sugar. Place on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the edges are golden. Cool slightly and roll in sugar while still hot.
