Chocolate Pound Cake

Delicious chocolate pound cake recipe. Ideal for serving at breakfast or with coffee with friends.

  • 2 1/4 cups flour, sifted
  • 3/4 cups cocoa, + 1 tablespoon
  • 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla essence
  • 3/4 cups low-fat milk, to make the buttermilk
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 package semisweet chocolate, Turin
  • 1/4 sticks butter
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup

  • Grease and flour a 12-cup bundt pan or two 5-cup loaf pans. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius.
  • Sift the flour with the baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Sift again with the cocoa powder. Add to the milk, vanilla, and dissolved coffee.
  • Cream the butter until light and fluffy. Add the sugar and beat for 5 minutes. Add the egg yolks one at a time, lower the mixer speed, and add the flours along with the milk in three parts, starting and ending with the flour.
  • Beat the egg whites until soft peaks form and add one third to the mixture. Fold in the rest. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 1 hour if using a bundt pan and less if using smaller pans, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • To glaze it, melt a package of semi-sweet chocolate (Turin) with ¼ stick of butter and 2 tablespoons of corn syrup.
