1/2 teaspoons salt
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg, large
1/2 teaspoons vanilla essence

We need a cookie sheet without edges so that the cookies cook quickly and retain their shape.
Preheat the oven to 350ºF and place the oven rack in the middle. The butter should be at room temperature.
In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Using a mixer, blend the butter and sugar.
The mixture should be light and fluffy; add the egg and vanilla, beating for 2 more minutes.
With the mixer on the lowest speed, incorporate the dry ingredients and mix for 30 seconds until well combined.
Put the sugar for sprinkling on a plate. Using a spoon, make balls of dough and place them on the plate. Coat well with sugar.
Place the sugar-coated balls on the ungreased cookie sheet, leaving 10 cm of space between them.
Bake until the cookies are golden and soft in the center, for 15 to 18 minutes. Let cool for one minute on the sheet and transfer to a rack to cool.
